Sri Lanka has lifted the blockade of social networks such as Whatsapp and Viver imposed after attacks on churches and luxury hotels, which killed 253 people on April 21 on the island.

"The decision to block social networks was taken immediately after the attacks. Now, after badessing the situation, the government believes that it can be lifted, " The director of the information department, Nalaka Kaluwewa, told Efe.

The Sri Lankan President, Maithripala Sirisena, issued this order as part of the measures to bring the nation back to normal after the series of coordinated attacks against three churches and three luxury hotels, also making more than 500 wounded , depending on the source. .

Kaluwewa said that "anyone who shares false information" should "take responsibility for it", given that the state of emergency is still in effect and that the authorities "can act" for this type of situation. ;activity.

"We are asking users to be responsible in their interactions on social networks," explained the CEO.

The attacks were committed by at least nine suicide bombers carrying powerful explosives, linked to local extremist organizations and claimed by the Islamic State (IS) jihadist group.

A few hours later, a seventh detonation took place in a small hotel located about ten kilometers south of the capital and the last one in a residential complex, also in Colombo.

Authorities linked these explosions to the attempted escape of several suspects.

Since then, many explosive devices have been discovered and deactivated in different parts of the city, allegedly linked to these attacks.

At least 16 people were killed in these investigations, arrested about 150 and seized large sums of money and weapons.
