Strong self-criticism of the Church regarding child abuse

"The meeting on the protection of minors in the Church has put us in front of the sin and tragedy of abuse, the badual abuse which is also an abuse of conscience and which always starts from an abuse of power", said Monday at the head of the Episcopal Commission of Argentina, Bishop Oscar Ojea, the Plenary Assembly.

"We must renew the roots of the lifestyles and training structures that have allowed some religious to sprout up a feeling of superiority and domination over the faithful people," added the prelate.

At the same time, he recalled: "The Holy Father and the whole Church urged us to radically reduce these situations". In this sense, he called for the removal of attitudes that are far from his mission and to reject any form of dissimulation. "Do not hide a complaint that deserves an investigation to protect minors and vulnerable adults," Ojea said.
