Syrian dictator Bashar al Assad and his wife tested positive for COVID-19

The President of Syria, Bashar al Assad, and the first lady, Asma al Assad, they gave positive in coronavirus tests and they are in quarantine at their home, although they show only “mild” symptoms and their state of health is “stable”, the presidency of the Arab country reported on Monday.

“After the two men exhibited mild symptoms similar to infection with the covid-19 virus, the president and Ms Asma al Assad underwent PCR tests and the result showed that they were infected with the virus.The presidency said on his Twitter account.

However, the health status of both is “good” and “stable”, so will continue to work from home while serving a quarantine period of between two and three weeks, the organ added.

The 55-year-old dictator and his 45-year-old wife called on the population to adhere “as much as possible” to preventive measures.

At the end of February, the regime announced that it had received a series of vaccines against the coronavirus from a “friendly country”, without revealing which one, and that it would begin the following week to vaccinate health workers in several provinces.

The Syria Immunization Cluster, led by the World Health Organization and the United Nations Children’s Fund, has drawn up plans to bring the vaccine to areas in the north of the country beyond Damascus’s control. hands of other factions and armed groups.

According to data from the Syrian Ministry of Health, in the past 24 hours there have been 56 new cases of covid-19, 81 recoveries and 5 deaths, increasing the total since the start of the pandemic at 15,981 infections and 1,063 deaths from the virus.
