For the fourth year in a row, the World Travel Awards have named Tayrona National Natural Park, located in Santa Marta (Magdalena), as one of the most important natural, historical and cultural riches in South America. Considered the “Oscars” of tourism, these awards each year recognize and recognize excellence in all key sectors of the travel industry.
“Taking into account the natural, historical and cultural riches of Tayrona National Natural Park, the World Travel Awards organization nominated the reserve for the fourth consecutive year in the category“ Leading tourist attraction in South America ”. It should be noted that since 2018, the Tayrona Natural Park has been nominated in the same category, demonstrating the preference of lovers of nature tourism over the naturally magical wonders that Santa Marta has ”, informed the Mayor of Santa Marta in through a press release.
As reported by the Samaritan authorities, Tayrona Park is nominated in the category “Main Tourist Attraction of South America, in which the Sanctuaries of Las Lajas, in Nariño, also compete for Colombia. The other nominated destinations are El Salto del Ángel, Venezuela; Atacama Desert, Chile; Christ the Redeemer, Brazil; Iguazu Falls, Argentina; Middle of the World City, Ecuador; Machu Picchu, Peru, glacier Perito Moreno in Argentina; and Torres del Paine National Park, Chile.
It is important to mention that the tourism “Oscars” also considered other destinations and travel agencies in the country for this twenty-eighth edition. In total, Colombia is nominated in 18 categories.
The awards will be presented on October 16, at a ceremony to be held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. To choose the winners, the World Travel Awards organizing committee has activated an option on its website so that the general public and travel industry executives can vote for their favorite nominees until July 26. The destination or company in each category that receives the most votes will be announced as the winner.
Colombia should stand out in this edition of the awards, just as it did last year. In 2020, the country received awards for six of its cities: San Andrés, which won the Beach Leader Destination award; Bogotá, which was awarded as the best business travel destination; Medellín, which won in the Urban Leader Getaway Destination category; Barranquilla won the Leading Cultural City Destination Award; Cali which won the title of leading emerging tourist destination; and Cartagena received the Leading Honeymoon Destination award for the second year in a row.
