The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Thursday afternoon – local time – updated the number of missiles launched by terrorist groups operating in the Gaza Strip. At 7 p.m., it amounted to “about 4,340 rockets”, 640 of which were defective and fell in the Palestinian enclave.

“The interception rate of the Iron Dome (Israel’s anti-missile system) is 90 percent,” the armed forces added.

However, the number of missiles launched is already higher than that announced, since in the last minutes sirens sounded in southern cities like Ashdod and Ashkelon.

In retaliation, the IDF continued with its operations against strategic targets of the terrorist group. The last tunnels of the magnitude reported were the new Hamas tunnels, which left several injured.

The IDF said that during the early hours of Thursday they attacked “dozens” of points in the group’s tunnel network, known as the “metro”, as well as “other terrorist targets”.

Among the targets attacked were “a military infrastructure at the home of a commander of the Khan Younis battalion, Ali Abu Zarqa, as well as weapons production sites and submarine launch points”.

Along with the clashes, diplomatic efforts continue to achieve a ceasefire. As various local and international media reported, the Israeli security cabinet approved a truce in the Gaza Strip, it was not clear when it would go into effect. Soon after, Hamas joined the initiative.

In an interview with The Associated Press, a Hamas hierarch, Osama Hamdan, said that expects the ceasefire in the next 24 hours but warned that the terrorist group “does not face a missile shortage”.

“I can assure you that what was seen in the early days in terms of the scale of the bombing against Tel Aviv and the neighborhoods of Jerusalem may last not days, but months,” he said. However, he also referred to the negotiations – in which Egypt and Qatar play a leading role – and foresaw an imminent agreement.

In Israel, the security cabinet was holding a meeting at which Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was to vote on a ceasefire proposal. The Qatari environment Al Jazeera reported that the Netanyahu administration informed Egypt – through the negotiations – you are ready to end the fight.

In this sense, the press secretary of the White House, Jen Psaki, evoked the information during a contact with a journalist and described it as “encouraging”.

“Obviously, we cannot anticipate a deal that can be negotiated,” said Psaki, who later added that Washington “is doing everything possible to end the conflict.”
