The University of Buenos Aires again distinguished itself in an international ranking of universities. In this case, he was able to position nine races in the top 100 of a ranking that assesses 51 disciplines around the world.

In the World University Rankings by Subject of the British consulting firm QS, published today Wednesday afternoon, a ranking is established for each of the races. UBA achieved the most remarkable performances in four disciplines which it ranked among the 50 best: Modern languages (position 23), Anthropology (37), Law (44) e petroleum engineering (44).

To these, we must add five other races that entered the top 100: Sociology (52 °), Geography (51-100), Art and design (51-100), History (51-100) and Politics and International Studies (51-100).

In all, the UBA entered the ranking with 37 disciplines. Of these, more than half remained stable in the same position as last year (19/37), seven improved their performance while seven other programs fell.

“It’s an incredibly stable performance. The data we collect and the observations we make indicate that global higher education is becoming increasingly competitive. There are many respected institutions that have seen many of their programs drop in the rankings. It is therefore a merit of the UBA to have remained very competitive against them “explained to Infobae Jack Moran, QS specialist.

The ranking analyzed 13,883 individual programs from 1,440 universities. Hence the value of the performance of the UBA which, at the regional level, is in fifth place among the most career institutions in the top 100, behind the University of San Pablo (32 majors), the National Autonomous University of Mexico (26), the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (16) and the University of Chile (14).

“The results of these international evaluations are significant because they demonstrate the very high level of engagement and excellence of the entire university community during one of the most difficult years in recent history. university, due to the pandemic. For him, we must continue to redouble our investment efforts to remain at the forefront of scientific development, and thus contribute to economic and human development. Our priority is to meet the needs of our society, ”said Alberto Barbieri, Rector of UBA.

To compile the rankings for each race, QS weights four metrics: academic reputation, employer reputation, number of citations in papers and the impact of research. The weight of each metric varies depending on the specificity of the discipline. For example, in medicine, the impact of research is valued more than in careers such as the performing arts, where opinion polls are more influential.

As in previous editions, at the national level, scientific and technological careers are not very present at the top. Beyond petroleum engineering, there is no Argentine university in the top 100. Researchers at the UK consultancy recommend supporting Conicet and forging alliances with industry so that there is a balance with the humanistic and social careers that prevail in the country.

Outside of UBA, the Southern National University ranked among the top 100 in petroleum engineering (band 51-100), the University of Palermo Ranked among the top 100 in Art and Design (51-100), the UCA does the same with Theology (51-100), the University of La Plata reached the top 200 with modern languages and ITBA he was also classified with petroleum engineering (101-150).
