“This will allow member states to act quickly and temporarily limit all travel from affected countries to the strict minimum for the time necessary to implement the appropriate health measures,” he said.

If the situation in a country deteriorates rapidly, and in particular if a worrying new variant is detected, countries can “urgently and temporarily suspend all round-trip travel of third country nationals residing in that country”.
