Surabhi, the bride, suddenly fell unconscious next to the groom, Manjesh Kumar. When the doctor arrived at the scene, he said there was nothing to be done: Surabhi had died of cardiac arrest.

So, faced with the situation and not to spoil the staging, the families decided that the groom would marry the younger sister of the deceased bride. Surabhi’s brother, Saurabh, told the India time: “We didn’t know what to do. The two families sat down together and someone suggested that my younger sister, Nisha, marry the groom. The families discussed the matter and agreed.”

During the wedding ceremony, Surabhi’s body was kept in another room in the house. Then, when completed, the last rites began to say goodbye to the deceased sister.

“It was a difficult decision for our family. A girl was lying dead in one room, and the other’s marriage was being celebrated in another room. We never go through such mixed emotions“Surabhi’s uncle Ajab Singh told the Indian newspaper.
