The “calculator” to know when to be vaccinated: load the data and find out

Argentina began on December 29 with the vaccination campaign, exclusively for health workers, as more vaccines are expected to arrive in the coming days and the range of groups to which the dose of Sputnik V will be applied will be expanded. In this context, teachers and those over 60 will have priority.

When in the province of Buenos Aires, there are 1,100,000 pre-registered for vaccination, and 3 out of 10 are over 60 years old (see: https://www.eldia.com/nota/2021-1-22-1-39-54-tres-de-cada-diez-preinscriptos-para-recibir-la-vacuna-son-mayores-de-60- anos-informacion-general), many want to know when it will be their turn to vaccinate. To this end and to reduce anxiety, scientists have developed the “Vaccination Shift Calculator”, an application that evaluates when the user will receive the Covid vaccine.

The same, developed by the Spanish Álvaro Díez Gepe and Dominika Miszewska, students of particle physics and medicine, in Omni Calculator, can be viewed via the web (https://www.omnicalculator.com/health/turno-vacunacion-covid-argentina) and is easy to use.

To perform this calculation, the application is based on the list of priority groups for vaccination published by governments, as well as on the vaccination rate. This way it estimates how many people are ahead of the user in the queue to get the vaccine and approximately how long they will have to wait their turn.

To get a calculation of when we will be vaccinated, we need to enter the age and whether we are health workers; if you work or live in an institution for the elderly; if you have underlying health problems such as diabetes (insulin-dependent and non-insulin-dependent), grade 2 obesity (body mass index-BMI- greater than 35) and grade 3 (BMI greater than to 40), cardiovascular, renal and / or chronic respiratory disease; if you are a teacher or work in educational institutions; if you are an essential staff; and, in the case of women, if you are pregnant.

Once this data is filled in, we will get an estimate of the maximum and minimum margin of people in front of us, as well as the dates between which we are likely to receive the vaccine, based on the government vaccination schedule.

Although the calculation is based on the vaccination rate projected by the executive, it is also possible to change it to the current rate (slower) or to another custom value. The results are also based on a vaccine acceptance rate of 70%, but this parameter can also be changed, obtaining different results.
