VENEZUELA.- The United States Special Representative for Venezuela, Elliott Abrams, said today that there were negotiations between the anti-Chavez and Chavez leaders in order to expel Nicolás Maduro from the Venezuelan government, but he badured that Washington would not participate.
For example, Abrams partially denied White House national security adviser John Bolton, who earlier said the United States had negotiated the Maduro exit with three Chavez figures.
According to Bolton, it is the Minister of Defense, General Vladimir Padrino; the President of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ), Maikel Moreno, and the commander of the presidential guard, General Iván Hernández, whom he urged to revolt against Maduro "this afternoon ".
"As all opponents in Venezuela know, they promised to support the overthrow of Maduro," Bolton told reporters in Washington.
The official supplemented this statement with a message on Twitter in which he enthused Padrino, Moreno and Hernández.
"This is your last chance: accept the amnesty of interim President (Juan) Guaidó, protect the Constitution and expel Maduro, and we will remove them from the list of sanctions," he told them .
However, Abrams later badured that "the United States was not part of these negotiations" since they "were between Venezuelans".
"In the past two months, there have been interesting negotiations between Venezuelans, inside and outside the regime, on the return to the Constitution," Abrams told reporters in the US Department of Justice. State, according to the EFE news agency.
Abrams confirmed that these conversations included Padrino, Moreno and Hernandez, who pledged themselves to pledge allegiance to the parliamentally appointed interim president, Juan Guaidó, and to "restore democracy" in Venezuela.
The diplomat explained that "the agreement was that they would maintain their positions" and stressed that "it was not something sudden" but "part of a long process" .
The three leaders of Chavez decided today "not to honor their commitments", but "we will see what will happen the rest of the day" because "things are far from being solved", has added Abrams.
