They have marked a generation and have remained forever in the collective memory of a loyal public who have chosen them and shelter them despite the passage of the years. However, behind the lights of success, indoors, the lives of actors who put themselves in the shoes of The Three Stooges suffered consequences. Some suffered from serious health problems – Curly Howard – but he was not the only one who spent the last days of his life suffering from inclement weather.

Born October 5, 1902, Larry Good he was one of those who have almost always joined the humorous trio over the series’ 47 years. He was hardly absent the first two years – the series began in 1923 and he joined in 1925-. With his peculiar hairstyle, he quickly found a place and put the viewer in his pocket. It was one of the favorites.

The first years of his career were as a musician, a profession he practiced almost by chance, due to an accident that could have cost him his life. He was just a child when, because of some mischief, he almost drank acid. His father was a jeweler and used this liquid to verify the authenticity of the materials. The man saw it a few seconds before lifting it, with a slap he managed to remove it, but part of it spilled on his arm, causing serious injuries.

He was only four years old when this happened and the doctors wanted to target his arm, the acid had eaten up much of his tissue, but his parents insisted and placed an implant, a tissue they have withdrawn from his leg. It was a long process until it was optimal.

Over time, he not only had to undergo cosmetic surgeries, but, on medical advice, he began to play stringed instruments to regain mobility in the muscles and tendons of the affected limb. Thanks to this, he became a great professional violinist.

Later he began to practice boxing, always looking for strength and mobility in this arm. Time made him also become a professional boxer. He came to play a few fights in a federation, but his father preferred that he devote himself to something else.

Far from sport and music, despite the conditions, he tried his luck in the theater. He immediately discovered himself as an actor and embraced this profession. He started touring much of the United States, people paid to see his events and abilities. However, her parents, again, disagreed that this was her source of income. So at one point he left and started working in his father’s jewelry, but it only lasted 3 months.

According to his biography, his father was angry because he spent the whole day entertaining the rest of the employees with his humorous performances. This is how they let him be and let him go his own way. With the door open, he starts playing again.

His return to the stage was in the room Sister Haney, with the sisters My beauty Yes Loretta Haney as protagonists. It didn’t take long for Larry and Mabel to begin, in principle, an underground relationship. He was Jewish and she was Catholic, so her relatives could not find out. Finally, as a token of love, in 1926 she converted to Judaism and, with this approach, they married later, when he was already at the top, in full success of the Three Stooges.

Nothing could go wrong in this story. However, unforeseen condiments appeared. The gift, the play and the tragedy were present in a very short period to disturb the calm. All this, what life had given him, made him lose it in the last part of his journey.

Debacle

Away from the scene, focusing on his private life, he made several inconveniences that led his later years not to be as he wanted them to be, or as his career would have established it. Completely the opposite. He was a gamer and spent large fortunes which affected not only his pocket but also his family. He spent a lot of money at the casino, card games and horse races.

While he was working in the big leagues and the income was majestic, he was able to maintain it, but in 1957 when The Three Stooges ceased to be issued, expenses exceeded income. There, some plans had to change, but not all; those referred to gambling continued their course.

To the useless game was added a style of life in which he needed great fortunes to maintain himself. As soon as he entered Les Trois Stooges, he began to live, with Mabel, with whom he had two children, a dream life. In his biography, he said that none of them liked the daily tasks of a house and that is why they went to live in a sophisticated hotel, with all the comforts. They were homeless, they went from one hotel to another.

From the years when they didn’t even cook, they lived in first-class restaurants, they traveled all the time whenever the profession allowed them. This life they led for a decade. In 1940, they bought a house in Los Angeles to avoid spending the same way. All the while, the specter of economic bankruptcy haunted them.

In contrast, the game continues to wreak havoc on his wallet. The casino was his downfall. Not only that; He was very generous to his colleagues who were taking their first steps. Even, because of their generosity and kindness, there are many who have taken advantage of this condition.

He loaned large sums of money, for the purchase of his first property for example, and it was never returned. He never had a conflict about it, he didn’t mind. He preferred to look away before fighting for money. At the same time, he gives majestic gifts, especially to his wife, with whom he is very much in love. Money was not a problem, he was not interested in accumulating it. While his colleagues in the series took the opportunity to save large sums and invest, he spent them.

His ordeal

In November 1961, in a traffic accident, JOh no, his eldest son. The young man was 24 years old and it was a big shock in his life. His family was the most important thing, everything he did was for them. His death, the way it happened, he couldn’t stand it.

Six years later, life ended with the final blow when his wife passed away. Suddenly, from cardiac arrest, Mabel died and caused her great anguish, especially under the circumstances. He was working, on tour with The Three Stooges, when they told her what had happened and flew to California to fire her.

In the midst of a great depression, he resumes acting with the sole intention of tending his head. His casting mates were his heavy thread to keep him alive. But since that last event, he has never been the same. His lighthouse was no longer present and, without this guide, he would innocently have thought he had no reason to continue.

At the same time, his health gradually deteriorated. In 1970, just the last year of the series, he suffered from hemiplegia which forced him, at 69, to leave the scene for good. For the past few years, he has lived in a hospital, a place where his daughter visited him every day. Phyllips and his friend and partner in the crazy, Moe Howard.

At the same time, he took the opportunity to entertain the rest of the patients from his wheelchair, he did not need more than that, and will write his autobiography which he entitled Stroke of luck. His light went out on January 24, 1975, in the tranquility of the sanatorium where he arrived as an actor, because he had no more money to choose.
