The defense of Jeanine ñez asked the IACHR for a precautionary measure to avoid “irreparable damage”

The defense of the former interim president of Bolivia Jeanine Áñez asked the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) for a precautionary measure aimed at “asking a state to protect one or more persons who are in a serious and urgent situation from suffering irreparable harm”.

Áñez’s lawyer, Luis Guillen, opted for this option after, as explained, have exhausted the legal proceedings in Bolivia to restore the rights of the former president, according to the Bolivian newspaper The reason.

“This request was motivated by the threats, harassment and attacks on the life and personal integrity of the former president. And given the lack of access to adequate medical treatment that he has so far not been able to receive to regain his health, ”he added.

The ex-president Carlos mesa and leader of the Citizen’s Community (CC), the main opposition force in Bolivia, called for the “end of the political imprisonment” of Jeanine ñez and that she be able to defend herself “in freedom”. Mesa expressed via Twitter that the explanations of the government on the state of health of ñez “are neither serious nor credible” and that the Permanent Assembly for Human Rights and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) can “check their situation”.
