The dramatic moment an amusement park game fails

A popular Northern Michigan festival attraction has been dismantled and an investigation has been launched after the mechanical game seems to be slacking off and about to tip over with people on board.

Several witnesses filmed the incident, which left no serious injuries, Thursday night at the National Cherry Festival in Traverse City.

The magic carpet game “It started from the base”said Joe Evans, director of Traverse City-based entertainment provider Arnold Amusements. It had returned to the Ohio company that made it.

“Obviously, there was a malfunction. We still don’t know what it was, ”added Evans.

A witness told the chain WPBN-TV who looked up at the attraction after hearing a loud bang. “It was like a scream, then it started to go faster.”, dijo Joy Ogemaw. “And then he started rocking back and forth a bit.”

As the newspaper reports Traverse City Record Eagle, the operator of the game cut the power and went to safety. It was then that several people ran to grab a railing attached to the main base of the attraction to hold it until it came to a stop.

Arnold Amusements employees inspect attractions daily, the state inspects them annually and a third inspect them three times a year, according to the company.

A spokeswoman for the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs told the Traverse City Record Eagle What records showed that the failed amusement ride was last inspected in 2019 and the result was satisfactory.

“Attractions with a satisfactory permit from the previous season are temporarily allowed to operate under their previous permit until the current season’s inspection,” spokeswoman Suzanne Thelen said in an email. “There was no carnival season during the pandemic, and the attraction was operating at the Cherry Festival with a temporary permit based on a satisfactory prior inspection.”he explained.

The National Cherry Festival began on July 3 and was scheduled to end this Saturday.
