The earthquake shakes Peru early in the morning and triggers the warning in Chile

LIMA, Peru.- A 7-degree earthquake on the Richter scale was shaken in the early hours of this Friday in southern Peru, without any victims or damages having been registered so far.

The telluric movement was at 5:50 am (local time) with the epicenter at Azángaro, north of Lake Titicaca, announced the Geophysical Institute of Peru.

The earthquake occurred on the coasts of Arica and Parinicota, in the Puno region, and was felt in Arequipa, Tacna, Moquegua, Bolivia and northern Chile; it had a depth of 257 kilometers, according to the report of the United States Geological Survey.

The Peruvian agency explained in its opinion that the epicenter was located eight kilometers from the city of Azangaro, in the Puno Department.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center stated in a statement that the movement should not generate big waves on the nearby coast.

The movement of the Earth has also been observed in northern Chile. An emergency meeting was held in this country chaired by the Minister of the Interior, Andrés Chadwick.

The minister badured after the meeting that there was "no badignment" for the tremors, although they will remain vigilant, according to the newspaper El Mercurio.
