The United States, Israel, the United Kingdom and Romania accused the Iranian regime of being behind the aggression.

In recent months, there have been numerous attacks on Israeli and Iranian ships as part of the covert war between the two countries, which has also included the sabotage of Iranian nuclear facilities.

On the other hand, UN Secretary-General António Guterres on Sunday expressed concern over escalating tensions on Lebanon-Israel border, asking the parties to restrain themselves and to collaborate with the troops of their mission.

In a message published by his spokesperson, Guterres expressed his “deep concern over the recent escalation between Lebanon and Israel on the Blue Line.

The diplomat called on “all parties to exercise maximum restraint and actively collaborate with the link and coordination mechanisms of UNIFIL (the United Nations mission for Lebanon)”. “It is essential that all actors involved avoid actions that could further increase tensions and lead to miscalculation“He added.

Israel’s Ambassador to the UN, Gilad Erdan, reacting to this message soon after, Deemed “unfortunate” that Guterres “draws a moral equivalence between attacks by designated organizations” and Israel, and denounced that he did not attribute the attacks to Hezbollah.

Three rockets were fired from Lebanon against Israeli territory last Wednesday, an action which has not been claimed by any group but which Israel suspects of Palestinian factions present in the south of the Arab country.

Israel retaliated with three artillery rounds and, hours later, in the early hours of last Thursday, with bombardment.

In response, Hezbollah launched around 20 rockets from southern Lebanon into Israel on Friday, claiming that this action was due to the aerial bombardment of Israel the day before, the first since the war they waged in 2006, according to the Lebanese authorities.

The escalating tension comes as Lebanon borders on collapse, hit by a severe economic crisis, with soaring inflation and a shortage of basic goods, medicine and fuel.; while the political blockade lasts, waiting for the Prime Minister designate, Najib Mikati, the third in less than a year, to form a government in the coming days.
