It was rumored that Andromeda would be the new folding surface of Microsoft.

David Breyer

We heard rumors about a secret Microsoft project called Andromeda a kind of Surface that removes the barrier between a cell phone, a tablet and a PC. However, although rumors have indicated that Andromeda will arrive this year, new reports indicate that the Andromeda project has been suspended indefinitely.

The news news comes from Microsoft reporters, Tom Warren and Mary Jo Foley, who say that Andromeda will not be published this year and has returned to the design table. With the two journalists coming to the same conclusion, everything seems to indicate that the fate of Andromeda is quite uncertain.

So, as @maryjofoley I hear Andromeda will certainly not come in 2018. OEM devices may come, but not with Andromeda OS because it's not ready. The whole project is being revised because there is no ecosystem of application to support it

– Tom Warren (@tomwarren) July 6, 2018

Previously, Warren had reported the details of Andromeda and claimed to have seen Microsoft internal documents on the device. However, he now says that the Andromeda operating system is not ready and that "it will certainly not happen in 2018."

For his part, Foley says that a restructuring within Microsoft could be the reason for Andromeda's death. According to his sources, Microsoft executives decided to include a first glimpse of Andromeda's operating system in the next version of Windows 10, but they finally decided not to do it.

Releasing Andromeda from the next version of Windows 10 Microsoft might suggest that dual-screen devices are not ready, since the release of Andromeda could have led to a new wave of 39, dual-screen laptops.

And because of the portable nature of Andromeda, his arrival could also have been the arrival of the first mobile phones and folding tablets. While we saw lots of patents and heard rumors of folding devices, nothing came on the market (in addition to the ZTE Axon M ).

Now this word reveals that Andromeda is on hold Microsoft fans have prepared a Change.org request to show their interest in the device. To date, it has more than 1,300 signatures

Microsoft declined to comment.
