The UK is the fourth largest contributor to Covax, for which it has pledged $ 776 million. The mechanism has already sent 81 million doses to 129 of the world’s most vulnerable countries.

The United States, for its part, has already pledged to provide 500 million Pfizer / BioNTech vaccines, including 200 million this year, and the French president Emmanuel Macron asked pharmaceutical companies to donate 10% of doses sold to underprivileged countries.

The British presidency of the G7 also wants large laboratories to provide vaccines at cost price during the pandemic, like AstraZeneca / Oxford.

In May, Pfizer / BioNTech, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson pledged to deliver 3.5 billion doses at cost or discount to the poorest countries in 2021 and 2022, including 1.3 billion this year.

G7 leaders will also discuss putting in place “mechanisms to prevent future pandemics”.
