The icy arrest of a Mexican sentenced to 21 years in prison for the murder of a living man

When he will be out of jail, 21 years of his freedom had vanished. The Mexican authorities decided to lock him up for a homicide he did not commit, while his alleged victim lives in the United States.

After being deprived of his liberty for two decades, he asked the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), and the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), in which he asked to clean up the system judicial and prison system.

The horror story of Manuel Ramírez Valdovinos started on May 26, 2000. He was 22 years old, he worked as a teacher in a music school and that day he came back from his day to celebrate the first month of the life of his only son.

His wife Esther was waiting for him at home to party. His home was in Tepexpan, near Teotihuacán, one of the most important archaeological sites in Mexico. But, according to Multimedia, around 8:00 p.m., a command of eight policemen violently entered the meeting, they shot the two dozen guests and handcuffed him violently.

Manuel told the media that the police put them in a car without license plates and with tinted windows. Once inside, they covered his head and beat him until he reached the prosecution. “He had committed a homicide”, assured the agents.

After torturing him in chains to get him to sign a confession, they finally revealed the name of his alleged victim: Manuel Martínez Elizalde.

Valdovinos knew him. He financially helped his namesake because “he didn’t even have enough to eat”. He didn’t understand what was going on. Inside the justice center, he saw the father of the “victim”, whom he heard saying: “Not that one, who is my friend’s son and he is going to arm me ”.

The agents refused to release him on the grounds that “everything was already armed” at the prosecution. With nothing else to do Martínez Elizalde’s father accepted a payment of 150,000 pesos for the agents who made the arrest.

Manuel Valdovinos’ trial took place amid various irregularities such as a body that did not match the “victim” and forged evidence. The objective, assured the portal, was that “the father of the “murdered” will receive a life insurance of a million dollars “.

Thus, the accused was sentenced to 40 years 7 months and 15 days in prison for a homicide he did not commit and Center for Prevention and Social Reintegration of Almoloya de Juárez for 20 years.

While behind bars, Manuel Ramírez learned that his victim was going “always at Tepexpan to participate in the patronal feasts ”. With the money collected from the life insurance, the father of the alleged murderer bought a large house where his son, who changed his identity and made physical modifications, he stayed for a few days before returning to the United States.

Manuel Valdovinos managed to get out of prison thanks to the support of Azeem Sánchez; the deputy Pedro Carrizales, “El Mijis”, and Bryan LeBaron, whose demands made Special Commission for the Supervision of the Amnesty Law of the State of Mexico he will re-examine the matter and grant him forgiveness and freedom.
