The Lima group, in the presence of the interim President of Venezuela, Juan Guaidó, approved a joint document in which explicitly excludes the use of force to displace dictator Nicolás Maduro.
At the request of US Vice President Mike Pence, who attended the Bogotá summit, the document reached also proposes a tightening of economic sanctions and insists on the diplomatic pressure exerted against the populist regime.
The text, of at least 10 points, will be presented at a press conference after the conclusion of the debate taking place at the Palace of San Carlos, headquarters of the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The decision aims to further isolate Nicolás Maduro and his entourage and is in line with the request of the United States and the event organizer, Iván Duque, who they urged the members of the Lima group to immediately freeze the badets of PDVSA in their country, to transfer Venezuelan badets to the Guaidó government, to restrict the issuance of visas to Chavez leaders and to vote in the IDB to recognize Guaidó.
