The mayor of Moscow ordered compulsory vaccination against the coronavirus for all public sector employees: “The situation is dramatic”

The mayor of Moscow warned on Wednesday against a “dramatic” evolution of the epidemic of covid-19 in the Russian capital, that is why he decreed the Compulsory vaccination for all employees in the service sector.

“We must do everything to deploy mass vaccination as quickly as possible and stop this terrible disease and end the deaths of thousands of people”, he said in a post on his blog Sergei Sobyanin.

Sobianin, whose city of about 12 million people is the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak in Russia, said that only 1.8 million people had been vaccinated.

“The coronavirus situation continues to develop dramatically”, Sobianin said, as authorities announced 5,782 new infections in the capital and 75 deaths.

“In the context of the extremely difficult epidemiological situation, the chief medical officer of public health of the city of Moscow today adopted a decree on the compulsory vaccination of workers in the service sector ”, He said.

The day before, the official had admitted that in recent days there has been an “explosive increase” in covid-19 cases in the capital and that they have 70% increase in hospitalizations for critically ill patients.

Sobyanin also appealed to the inhabitants of the capital restrict their contacts and mobility to break the chain of contagion, as well as to go to the vaccination posts against covid-19. He explained that it was precisely for this purpose in Moscow that they were public holidays decreed from the 15th to the 18th of this month.

According to Sobianine, 4,000 additional beds have been activated in Moscow for patients with covid-19, bringing their total number in the city to 16,000.

The announcement of the mayor of the Russian capital comes a day after the governor of Moscow province, Andrei Voroviov, ban until July 15 all mass demonstrations in its jurisdiction due to the worsening epidemic situation.

According to official statistics, the last day 1,135 cases of covid-19 have been recorded in Moscow province, which is an increase of 45% from data a week ago.

Although Russia has four self-produced anticovid vaccines – the bidoses Sputnik V, EpiVacCorona and CoviVac, and the single dose Sputnik Light – the vaccination campaign in the country is progressing with slowness mainly due to the reluctance of the population to be vaccinated.

A survey conducted last May by the Levada Center found that 62% of Russians are not ready to get vaccinated with Sputnik V, the main preparation used in the vaccination campaign and which, according to its developers, has a 97 percent efficiency.

Therefore, last week Sobyanin announced that all Muscovites receiving their first dose would automatically enter a lottery to win a car.

In the last 24 hours 6,805 cases of covid-9 and 71 deaths from this disease have been recorded in Moscow.

Russia, the sixth country in the world in terms of number of infections, after the United States, India, Brazil, France and Turkey, now has 5,236,593 cases and 127,180 deaths due to covid-19.
