The MLB Trade: Giants open up prospects for prospects by sending Cory Gearrin, Austin Jackson to the Rangers

The San Francisco Giants decided to inject young people into their list.

On Sunday afternoon, the Giants traded right-hander Cory Gearrin and outfielder Austin Jackson to the Texas Rangers as part of a salary exchange. Both teams confirmed the agreement. Full details:

In the corresponding movements the Giants called young people Ray Black and Steven Duggar to replace Gearrin and Jackson. Black is a very hard thrower and Duggar has been considered the team's center-forward of the future for a moment now. He hits .272 / .354 / .421 in 78 Triple-A games this year.

Long story short, the Rangers bought a prospect by taking about $ 5 million worth of pay due to Jackson and Duggar. MLB.com ranks Bahr 23 as the 27th best prospect in the San Francisco system. Here is an excerpt from their reconnaissance report:

Bahr is sitting in the low 90's with his fastball as a starter and has reached 96 mph in shorter periods … Bahr also lacks experience and has need to refine its secondary lands. He has made encouraging progress with his curveball at the beginning of the year 2018, giving hope that he can become a solid ball, but his change is still in its infancy. He has no problem providing strikes and is good at keeping the ball in the area.

The Giants are trying like crazy to break the $ 197 million luxury goods tax threshold this season and drop Gearrin and Jackson to help make that possible. Moreover, neither Gearrin (95 ERA +) nor Jackson (67 OPS +) have been particularly effective this season, so it is quite possible that the Giants have paid their salary and improved their list with this trade.

San Francisco arrives Sunday at 46-45 and fourth place west of NL. They are however only 4 1/2 of the first place, so it is not excluded to make a second half under the division. The Rangers are 39-51 and in last place in West AL.
