The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, known as Mormons, announced this Thursday in the United States that will allow children of LGBT parents to be baptized
The Church announced in a statement this change in its internal policy relating to parishioners members of the LGBT community, and in particular the cancellation of a measure taken in 2015 preventing children from same-bad couples to be baptized and blessed, as well as qualify as "apostasy"LGBT couples unions.
"Children of parents who identify as bad, gay, bibadual or transgender can be baptized without the approval of the First Presidency if the parents who have custody of it authorize baptism."says a statement from the Church released Thursday, two days before the annual Salt Lake City, Utah conference.
Dallin Oaks' announcement of the First Presidency explains that the new approach "this does not represent a change in church doctrine regarding marriage or God's commandments on chastity and morality"
That means, Oaks said, that LGBT Mormons are expected "act according to the teachings of the Church"
The Mormon Church has changed a standard that was established in 2015 and which, according to reports, some 1,500 LGBT members leave this religious group.
The changes were caused by the president of this church, Russell Nelson, who took office a year ago, to "reduce the hatred and conflicts that are so common today."
A few weeks ago, the Mormon Church, majority in Utah, stopped opposing the inclusion of the LBGT community in a legislative initiative against hate crimes in this country. State, paving the way for the entry into force of this measure.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has some 17 million members in some 30,000 congregations around the world., with Utah, Montana and Wyoming concentrating the largest number of Mormons in the United States, according to the church.
