Good news in the midst of so much pain caused by the collapse of the Champlain Towers South building in Miami: Binx, a cat who lived on the ninth floor of the condo, was found safe and sound two weeks after the building collapsed and he was reunited with his family.

The black cat was found by volunteers from a shelter near the rubble, where rescuers are still looking for the bodies of the missing. They took him to Kitty Campus, an organization that takes care of stray animals in Miami Beach.

According to the newspaper The Miami Herald, Binx was one of the pets of the González family, who lived in apartment 904 of the 12-story building that suddenly collapsed on June 24 at dawn.

Angela and Edgar González lived in the unit with their daughters Deven and Tayler, Binx and a dog, Daisy.

“After 16 long and extremely difficult days, I am happy to be able to share a little good news,” Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said on Friday, recounting that the cat had found its owners.

The news was celebrated by hundreds of pets on social media, who shared photos of their cats as encouragement and to celebrate the “miracle.”
