The next increase in electricity rates in San Juan will be 17.24% in two installments, which will arrive with the tickets to users in late January and the last days of March, for consumption starting in November. and January, Jorge Rivera Prudencio, head of the electricity regulator (EPRE), announced yesterday a dialogue with the press. The total increase will be the highest of the last 15 years at least in the province. To find the most significant increase in recent years, it is necessary to go back to September 2016, when a 14% tariff change was decided.
So that the impact is not as strong in the pocket of the users, the modality chosen on this occasion by the control body was to double the increase. The first, of 7.24%, will go from the date of the resolution of November 6 to January 23, 2019. And from January 23, a second tranche of 10% will begin to be applied. The changes resulted from the last rate review hearing held on November 2nd. At this meeting, attended by all parties concerned, the EPRE, which is the control body, the San Juan energy distributor, the Distribuidora Eléctrica de Caucete (DECSA) and the representatives of the users, the first of companies, which is the one with the largest number of customers, had asked for a retouch of 29.9%. However, the regulator responded that, according to their studies, the increase was in the range of 12-18%. In the end, the increase that will be applied will be closer to the last digit, but with the novelty, it will be in two intervals.
This last hearing took place in a particular context, because during the last call, on July 18, the EPRE had granted the distributor a minimal, almost symbolic increase of 0.11%, against 26% expected by the company. This decision was beneficial for users who found virtually no adjustment to their ballot. But now the scenario has changed and this will be reflected in the next increase that will come with the January ballots.
An argument that has overwhelmed the audience and reflects in some way the economic difficulties faced by Energía San Juan is that the representatives of the company revealed that they were in debt with the Management Company of the wholesale market. of electricity SA (Cammesa) considered a financial debt. But the owner of EPRE, Rivera Prudencio, told them that electricity users pay all the energy consumed with their ballot and that if the distributor did not do it the same way , it was the decision of the company.
This increase to be paid by the electricity users in San Juan corresponds to the service of the distribution networks. In practice, of the price paid by the customer, 70% is impacted by the national transport and the remaining 30% by the services of the distribution networks.
