The photo of Queen Suthida with her companion easily topped 29,000 retweets and received hundreds of comments. Most of the shocked users deplored the conditions under which the suite of kings had to work and called it “modern slavery”.

In Thailand, respect for the monarch and his wife should be shown at all times and kneeling before them is one of the most common signs of respect.
