At the end of the meeting, Francisco and Imam Ahmed el Tayeb signed a joint statement in which compromised the efforts of both religions to "Fight against extremism".
"We firmly declare that religions must never incite war, hateful attitudes, hostility and extremism, violence or bloodshed. These tragic realities are the consequence of a deviation from religious teachings ", says the statement
