Popocatepetl, an active volcano located in central Mexico, recorded a strong explosion Monday at 21:38 local time, releasing incandescent materials on the cone and emitting ash with dispersion north-east of Puebla, reports the Civil Protection Coordination State of Puebla.
The explosion was accompanied by a column of gas and ash high 1.2 km.
The Mexican volcano has released fragments several kilometers away, while the blast has been heard within a 40-km radius, details SkyAlert, who has described it as one of the most powerful of the latter years and published a video of the epidemic.
The platform indicated that the explosion had shaken the doors and windows of Puebla and called on the population to respect the 12 km safety radius, with glowing fragments falling more than two kilometers from the crater.
According to Mexican authorities, Popocatépetl is currently in yellow phase 2 at the volcanic fire warning.
