The reaction of the teenager who recorded the murder of George Floyd after hearing the sentence against Derek Chauvin

She watched the endless minutes when Agent Derek Chauvin knelt on her neck until it took her life. And not just with his eyes: more importantly, with his cell phone, recording the video known all over the world.

On May 25, 2020, Darnella arrived at the Cup Foods convenience store with her 9-year-old cousin. They had gone to buy some snacks and found a shocking scene. She didn’t hesitate to pull out her cell phone and reveal the abuse to the police. Video captured by Frazier (who was 17 at the time) shows Chauvin applying pressure with his knee to the neck of Floyd, a 46-year-old African American. The image went viral and generated unrest in the United States and around the world, sparking massive protests against racism and police brutality.

This Tuesday, the 12 members of the jury concluded that the accused was guilty.

“My heart goes out to the George Floyd family! ❤️🙏🏽Although no amount of charge will bring back a loved one, justice has been served and your killer will pay the price. We did it❤️❤️✊🏽“, He added on his Instagram profile.

Moreover, faced with the avalanche of responses, he writes: “I can’t respond to all of your lovely comments the way I would like, but THANKS everyone! The support I had from day one has taken me a long way so thank you all again, thank you 🙏🏽🙏🏽“

It was not easy from the first minute. Not when he recorded the scene, nor when he received insults from extremists who defended the police action. Nor when he participated in the trial as a witness a few days ago, with emotional responses to questions from the prosecution.

“My father is black. My brother is also black, ”the teenager told court with tears in her eyes. “It could have been one of them,” he added.

“I spent entire nights apologizing over and over again to George Floyd for not doing more, not interacting physically, and saving his life.“Said the witness, who stressed that she couldn’t have done anything either.

At the booth, he described Floyd as someone who was “scared”, “terrified” and “begged for his life”. “It wasn’t right. He was in pain. It hurt,” he said. “I knew it was wrong. We all knew it was wrong,” he added.
