The reasons for the curious meeting between Steven Seagal and Nicolás Maduro

Steven Seagal’s visit to Nicolás Maduro attracted attention on social media and had a diplomatic reason for the position that the actor fills in the Russian government.

Since 2018, Seagal is the special representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry. He has had the nationality of this country since 2006 and is linked by a close relationship with President Vladimir Putin.

During his meeting with Maduro, Seagal gave him a katana, traditional Japanese sword. The actor and producer is a renowned martial arts specialist and aikido teacher.

The meeting was also attended by Maduro’s wife, Cilia Flores; the president of the Chavist Parliament, Jorge Rodríguez; and the Minister of Communication, Freddy Ñáñez.
