Mercosur on Wednesday called for "seek a rapid return of democratic institutions" in Venezuela and "to promote the complete restoration of democracy", which includes the realization of "Free, fair and transparent presidential elections in the shortest possible time".

In a document signed by the four bloc countries at the 54th Summit of Heads of State held in Santa Fe, Mercosur expressed its "concern" for "serious crisis affecting Venezuela, which seriously affects the humanitarian and human rights situation"

They also signed the document as partner countries: Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, Guyana and Suriname.
