The officer then performed CPR maneuvers on him. Toledo was finally declared dead on the spot.

Later in the video, an officer shines a flashlight on a gun behind the fence where Toledo was located.

The Mayor of Chicago, Lori Lightfoot, described Toledo’s death as “incredibly painful tragedy“.

After the video was released, small groups gathered in downtown Chicago on Thursday to protest peacefully for the teenager’s death. “Lock up the policeman!” Chanted some, according to local media.

“I don’t think it matters if Adam was a good kid or if he was involved in some inappropriate activity, the point is that he was walking down the street and they shot him unarmedAdeena Weiss-Ortiz, lawyer for the Toledo family, told reporters.

“The images show that Toledo complied with the officer’s orders,” he insisted.

Tensions over racism and the police are high in the United States. In nearby Minneapolis, the trial of a former white policeman accused of murdering African American George Floyd in May 2020 is underway, a case that has sparked a wave of racial protests across the country.

Another fatal police shootout last Sunday on an unarmed African-American youth, Daunte Wright, sparked violent protests in a suburb of that city.
