The story of Epiphany “N”: after murdering her ex-husband who had abused her daughter, she was released

It should be noted that Epiphanie committed murder after an argument with her ex-partner, who had sexually abused her daughter for years.

Epiphany’s daughter “N” told police the 48-year-old had a fight with her mother, so at one point he intervened to separate them. However, at this time, the woman went to her room. When he returned he had a hand gun and, without hesitation, fired the gun at the subject who died instantly.

Red Cross paramedics attended the scene and found the man no longer had vital signs.

Later, Epiphany “N” was arrested by agents of the Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC) of the capital who transferred her to a Public prosecutor to make his statement.

At the first hearing where he was presented, the judge called his detention legal and gave him preventive detention. She was hospitalized for several days in the Santa Martha Acatitla women’s prison for the crime of homicide.

Her defense requested that the case be looked at from a gender perspective and argued that she had been in self-defense. In response, the judge asked them to present additional evidence to determine what had been the causes of the event.

According to the aforementioned media, the now deceased had a restraining order against him since 2019, when he had previously assaulted Epiphany and sexually abused his daughter.

The case of Epifanía’s daughter “N” is not the only one in Mexico. In January 2020, Mexico Evalúa reported that four in ten women over the age of 18 had experienced some type of sexual violence in the second half of 2019.

It means that more than six million women in Mexico have been victims of sexual violence in six months. Keep in mind that this includes a range of assaults, from sexual harassment and attempted rape and rape, to sexual harassment and sexual abuse.

However, most cases go unreported or are exposed long afterward, when the victim has been able to figure out what happened and seek justice. Moreover, even in complaints, only five out of 100 result in a sentence, revealed data from (National Institute of Statistics and Geography) Inegi in 2021.
