The tension continues in Haiti: the chief of staff resigned and accused the Prime Minister of not “collaborating with Justice”

The Secretary General of the Council of Ministers of Haiti, Renald Lubérice, resigned this Wednesday criticizing the Haitian Prime Minister, Ariel Henri, which is the subject of an investigation in the context of the assassination of President Jovenel Moise for not “collaboration with Justice”.

Lubérice announced his resignation in a letter addressed to the Council of Ministers, in which he justified his resignation in the suspicion that Ariel Henry could be involved in the assassination of President Jovenel Moise, carried out on July 7.

“I cannot stay at the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers under the direction of a person appointed by Jovenel Moise who was accused in his assassination, and that he does not intend to cooperate with Justice, ”Lubérice said in a statement that he also shared on his Twitter account.

The prosecutor of Port-au-Prince Bed-ford Claude asked this Tuesday to accuse Henry in the case of Moses’ murder, something that this earned him the impeachment of the prime minister under the justification of “serious administrative offenses”.

However, The letter communicating the decision was dated Monday, September 13, the day before Claude forbids Henry to leave the country, sources close to the prime minister indicated that this measure would have no effect since it was taken after the dismissal.

The prosecutor based his suspicions on NGO reports claim that Henry had two telephone conversations with one of the main suspects in the organization of the murder, Joseph Felix Badio, hours after the crime.

Despite the suspicions, the prosecutor was not empowered to request the investigation or the summons to appear of the people involved, the murder case being in the hands of the examining magistrate Garry Orélien, which is the only authority with the power to conduct the investigation.

Some Haitian media have declared that Henry had dismissed Lubérice as well as the Minister of Justice, Rockefeller Vincent., during the same Council of Ministers during which the prosecutor was removed from his post, which was held on Monday, but this information was not officially confirmed.

The dismissal of the Minister of Justice was one of the demands made by some opposition parties as a condition for signing a political agreement, which was signed last Saturday.

The agreement, signed by the Prime Minister and several opposition parties, provides for the postponement of the elections and the formation of a new non-partisan government, which would assume power until the meeting with the ballot box.

Moise was assassinated on July 7 by a commando of Colombian mercenaries hired by a Miami security company run by a Venezuelan.

To date, 44 people have been arrested, including around 20 former Colombian soldiers and five Haitian and American citizens, as well as several police officers.. None of the president’s security guards were injured in the attack.

Henry had previously been invited to appear for questioning in the case to provide explanations about the alleged conversations he had hours after Moise’s murder with a former government official wanted in connection with the murder.

Friday, Claude had asked Henry to show up on Tuesday to answer questions about the calls.

The police continues to actively seek out former civil servant Joseph Felix Badio, who worked in the anti-corruption unit of the Ministry of Justice.
