The three reasons which made the popular consultation a “successful experience”, according to INE

“Our country experienced the first legal exercise of the Popular Consultation at the national level in the history of our democracy, in which millions of Mexican men and women have been able to exercise our right to express their opinion on an issue considered to be of national importance, ”he said, according to the official press release.

In this sense, he claimed that the so-called popular consultation to prosecute the former presidents of Mexico it was “successful” for three specific reasons.

1) Because it is the first national consultation carried out with the same standards of technical quality, impartiality and integrity with which the elections are held

2) Because the greatest number of voters in history participated.

3) Because opinion broadcasting has developed in civility and peace.

The official results that will be obtained when the district counts are completed, he said, will be turned over to the nation’s Supreme Court of Justice to determine constitutional effects.

But Córdova was not the only one to see the popular consultation as something positive, as Councilor Carla Humphrey felt that “she made important contributions which, in short, strengthen and consolidate our electoral system and now participatory” .

In addition, he assured that some elements that could help the next consultations are proven technological mechanisms at international and local level.

On the other hand, Councilor Norma De la Cruz assured that “the consultation allowed citizens to exercise democracy in a new way by giving their opinion on a question of national importance”.

In this regard, he considered that “with this, this date becomes historic, because we have taken one more step in the exercise of participatory democracy”. And I keep going, because he said that “Today we all win”, because the INE has verified their organizational capacity and their responsibility ”.

“The citizens prove once again that they are ready to participate in the democratic life of the country and in decision-making,” said the adviser.
