The oral and public trial for the crash of the Austral aircraft that crashed in Fray Bentos (Uruguay) in October 1997 and which left 74 dead, began Tuesday afternoon with 35 people related to the civil aviation system by malicious havoc

The day began with reading the elevation requirement at trial and the list of defendants before the Federal Oral Court (TOF) 5 of the City of Buenos Aires, before the Courts of Comodoro Py, with the presence of relatives of the victims, who are the complainants.

After completing this formality, he was moved to an intermediate room until 9 April, when witness statements will begin.

The hearing was held more than 20 years after the first judicial inquiry, led by the federal judge of the day, Jorge Ballestero, which in 2004 returned all the defendants for lack of merit, a measure that was revoked by the Chamber I of the Federal Chamber which condemned him to deepen the investigation.

Two years later, Ballestero sued the same people who had dismissed him after considering that the "Intentional chaos"since officials and technicians were aware of the aircraft's instrument deficits and still agreed to fly.

The defenses were used, but Chamber I confirmed the decision of all the accused and the process began.

35 people will be judged by the accident in which 74 people died.
