The trial for the tragedy of the Austral plane has begun: there are 35 accused

The oral and public hearing fall of the austral plane that crashed in Fray Bentos (Uruguay) in October 1997, started this Tuesday with 35 people connected to the civil aviation system on the dock, accused of malicious ravages.

The process began with the reading of the application for trial and the list of defendants brought before the Federal Oral Court (TOF) 5 of the City of Buenos Aires, in front of several relatives of the victims, who are claimants.

After completing this formality, he was moved to an intermediate room until 9 April, when witness statements will begin.

The hearing was held more than 20 years after the first judicial inquiry, led by the federal judge of the day, Jorge Ballestero, who in 2004, he dismissed all defendants for lack of merit, a measure revoked by Chamber I of the Federal Court, who ordered him to investigate further.

"Mistakes in crew decisions led the plane to fly out of bounds, losing speed in the midst of a violent storm, with communication difficulties with Ezeiza and without to report that he was already on Uruguayan territory ", indicated at the stage of the investigation.

Two years later, Ballestero sued the same people who had been fired after considering that "fraudulent chaos" had been proven.since officials and technicians were aware of the aircraft's instrument deficits and still agreed to fly.

The defenses appealed, but Chamber I confirmed the prosecution of all the accused and the trial was commenced.
