The video in which a lion is seen holding a man’s leg through a fence has been shared thousands of times in recent days with the claim that it shows a thief who attempted to enter a house in Mexico .

In fact, the incident happened when an American missionary attempted to take a photo while climbing the lion enclosure wall at a zoo in Guatemala in 2011.

The original article claims that the victim of the attack is Paul Oakey, a young man identified as Brother Oakey while he was a missionary in southern Guatemala, who visited the zoo in the town of Esquipulas and climbed the 6 foot wall to take a photo.

“When Oakey turned his back on the lions, they snuck up on him,” said Alan Oakey (Paul’s father). A lion pierced the cage and grabbed the missionary’s right leg, causing him to fall against the cage. A second lion then grabbed Brother Oakey’s left arm with its mouth, ”the note read.

AFP Factual details that Oakey lost part of a leg, his left arm was amputated and the tendons in his thumb were torn by pressing hard on the eyeball of one of the two lions that attacked him.
