The United States has declared its “deep concern” over the crisis in Haiti and offered more security assistance.

President Jovenel Moise was buried this Friday in the family cemetery in his hometown, in the north of the impoverished country. The funeral took place after a mass and a ceremony in the gardens of the Habitation Village SOS, the private residence of the Moise family on the outskirts of Cap-Haitien, in the presence of the first lady, Martine Moise, who was injured in the attack, the couple’s children, the Prime Minister, Ariel Henry, officials, relatives and supporters of Jovenel Moise.

For the time being, 26 people were arrested, including 18 Colombians, most of them retired soldiers, as well as 2 Haitian police officers and 6 civilians, some of whom have dual American nationality. Among those arrested is Christian Emmanuel Sanon, a Haitian doctor residing in the United States and who, according to Haitian authorities, is the mastermind of the operation that killed Moise.

Three other Colombians died in shootings with Haitian police that took place within two days of the crime. At least ten suspects are at large, including five Colombians and five other Haitians, the latter accused of participating in the planning.
