The United States Department of Transportation ordered Wednesday the suspension of all pbadenger and cargo flights to and from Venezuela for both US and foreign companies.

In a statement dated 15 May 2019, the authorities indicated that they considered that "the conditions in Venezuela threaten the safety of pbadengers, aircraft and crews traveling to or from that country".

The document, signed by Transport Secretary Elaine Chao, takes into account risk factors such as "the reports of riots and acts of violence in the Venezuelan terminals and their environs; the lack of access to the Airport Security Security Administration to check security levels, as well as the crisis in Venezuela and the cancellation of flights by American Airlines and other service providers ".

"The reasons for this decision are as follows: arrest of civilians and inability to provide security at Venezuelan airports", tweeted Gustavo Mercano, Minister Counselor of the Venezuelan Embbady in the United States, appointed by the current trainee Juan Guaidó, recognized by USA and about 50 countries.
