The United States again questioned this Sunday the lack of “real transparency” of the Chinese regime concerning the start of the coronavirus pandemic, something which, as reported by government Joe Biden, has contributed to the “rapid” spread of the virus.

“I think China knows that in the early stages of covid-19, it didn’t do what it had to do, which is, in real time, provide access to international experts, share information in real time and offer real transparency “, said Antony Blinken, US Secretary of State, in an interview with the TV channel NBC, in which he also denounced Recent “aggressive actions” against Taiwan.

“One of the results of this failure (…) was that the virus got out of hand more quickly and with, I think, much more glaring results than it would have happened otherwise,” said the head of American diplomacy.

For this reason, Blinken urged to strengthen the global health system which includes reform of the World Health Organization (WHO) to avoid another similar situation.

The United States is the country most affected by the pandemic in absolute numbers, with more than 560,000 deaths.

However, in recent weeks, the vaccination process has accelerated, with more than three million daily doses, so the North American authorities they hope that 90% of their population will be vaccinated by the summer.

Currently, the country has more than 70 million people fully vaccinated, with one or two doses depending on the vaccine administered, which represents 21.5% of the population.

A team of WHO epidemiologists visited the city of Wuhan in central China in January 2020, to investigate the origin of the new coronavirus.

Since then, the disease that causes covid-19 has caused more than 135 million infections and more than 2.9 million deaths worldwide.

So far, science has determined that the origin is zoonotic (transmitted to humans from other species) and that the first cases have occurred in Wuhan, but precise information on the onset is still unknown.

For his part, during the interview with NBC Blinken said that U.S. Concerned About China’s Aggressive Actions Against Taiwan and he warned that it would be a “big mistake” for someone to try to change the status quo in the Western Pacific by force.

“What we have seen, and what really worries us, are the increasingly aggressive actions of the Beijing government against Taiwan, increasing tensions in the Strait.”, said the US Secretary of State.

Xi Jinping’s regime last Thursday blamed the United States for the tensions after an American warship sailed near Taiwan.

Under the Taiwan Relations Act, Washington has long pledged to ensure that Taiwan has the ability to defend itself and maintain peace and security in the western Pacific, Blinken said.

Asked about the US military response to any Chinese action in Taiwan, the North American foreign minister declined to comment on what-if scenarios: “All I can tell you is that we have a serious commitment that Taiwan can defend itself. We are firmly committed to peace and security in the Western Pacific ”.

“We reaffirm these commitments. And in this context, it would be a serious mistake for anyone to try to change this status quo by force, ”he added.

Taiwan has complained in recent months about repeated Chinese air force missions near the island, which the Chinese regime claims as its own.

The White House said last Friday it was closely monitoring increased Chinese military activity in the Taiwan Strait, calling Beijing’s actions potentially destabilizing.

Amid rising tensions, Taiwan warned last week that it would fight “to the end” if China attacked it., according to the island’s foreign minister, Joseph Wu, who added that allies like Japan and the United States are “closely following” Beijing’s latest military maneuvers near their territory.

“We are ready to defend ourselves and there is no doubt that we will wage a war if we have to fight it, and if we have to defend ourselves until the last day, we will. We are ready to increase our defense budget, reorganize our army or try to strengthen our reserve forces, ”Wu said at a press conference with international media.
