From 2023, the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) of the Department of the Treasury will initiate the redesign of the ten dollar bill, to continue in 2028 with the fifty-one.
This was established by the Advanced Counterfeiting Deterrence (ACD) Steering Committee, in order to avoid “counterfeiting threats or technological problems” resulting from the production of US currency.
The committee “monitors monetary security issues and provides recommendations to the Secretary of the Treasury,” the BEP said on its website.
In 2030 it will be the turn of the $ 20 bill. From 2032, it will be the turn of the five-year-old, and in 2034 the process will culminate with one hundred.
The aesthetics of the banknotes are completed once the security features available for the ACD are ready, which in turn depends on the departmental offices of the United States Department of the Treasury.
Founded in 1982, the body monitors and communicates counterfeiting deterrence issues to the Treasury, and acts as a liaison, reporting the combined findings of the committee, which includes senior executives from various agencies.
Banknotes have three levels of security: secret functions, functions for manufacturers of banknote equipment and public functions. These are considered the “first line of defense”.
In 2013, the new $ 100 bills began to circulate, which incorporated the 3d security strip and the bell in the inkwell, for added security. This note retained and improved three other features that showed great effectiveness in previous designs: the number 100 which changes color, the watermark of the portrait of Benjamin Franklin and the security thread.
