The new threat came to light almost two months after thousands of fans of former President Donald Trump stormed Congress on January 6 as lawmakers prepared to ratify Democrat Joe Biden’s election victory. So far, some 300 people have been accused of participating in this revolt. Five people, including a Capitol police officer, were killed.

The notice, in a statement by Capitol Police, came as the acting director of that security force was testifying before a legislative subcommittee.

Capitol Police “are aware and prepared for any potential threat to members of Congress or the Capitol complex.”said the statement. “We have obtained information about a possible plot by an identified militia to storm the Capitol on Thursday March 4th.”

The threat appears to be linked to a fanciful campaign by far-right groups, in particular supporters of the QAnon, that Trump will again take office on March 4, the date the United States used to celebrate its presidential transition until 1933, when it was changed to January 20.

Thousands of social media accounts that fueled the January 6 riot have been suspended by the Facebook and Twitter companies, making it difficult for these extremist groups to stage a new takeover of the Capitol.
