The VIIIth International Language Congress is coming

The price Nobel Mario Vargas Llosa, the Nicaraguan writer Sergio Ramírez, the Spanish Juan Luis Cebrián, Carme Riera and Alex Grijlemo, Mexicans Jorge Volpi, Paco Ignacio Taibo II and Juan Villoro, the Argentines Martín Caparrós, Claudia Piñeiro, Luisa Valenzuela and Pablo De Santis will be some of the participants, in addition to the Spanish singer Joaquín Sabina and the group Luthierswhich will reflect, among other issues, the changes that language has undergone in technology and changes in the social agenda.

Since the introduction of this modality promoted by the Cervantes Institute next to Royal Spanish Academy and the 23 Latin American language academies, this will be the first time a country returns to become a host: eight editions pbaded in this time frame and Argentina already hosted in 2004 with the developed edition in Rosario.

The ILAC it is proposed as a meeting point between the institutions that regulate the use of the language and its speakers, a population that is estimated to reach 570 million people, who have made it the second most widely used language in the world behind the Englishman.

In the edition that will open tomorrow with the speeches of the King of Spain, Felipe VI, the president of the Nation, Mauricio Macriand writers Mario Vargas Llosa and Carme Rieraamong others, topics such as the future of Spanish, the impact of digital technologies, the challenges of cultural industries, translation, linguistic blending and language teaching will be addressed .

There will also be an underground axis that will not occupy a formal place in the agenda but will permeate conversations and activities: the global advance of a gender agenda that has had its impact in this edition with the incorporation of 36% of women speakers – it will be a record 90 exhibitors – still has not agreed to annex to the debate the issue of inclusive language which, over the last year, has gained visibility and divided society into promoters and critics.

Under the motto "America and the future of Spanish", the programming of ILAC It will be organized around five sections or thematic axes: "Spanish, universal language"; "Language and interculturality"; "The challenges of Spanish in 21st century education"; "Spanish and the digital society" and "The competitiveness of Spanish as a language of innovation and enterprise".

There will be four special plenary sessions, one in tribute to Víctor García de la Concha, former director of RAE and the Cervantes Instituteand another to the Spanish composer Manuel de Falla, who died in the city of Córdoba Alta Gracia in 1946.
