The world's shortest intelligence test has only 3 questions

People with superior cognitive ability (IQ) have been shown to have greater memory, respond faster, are more susceptible to visual illusions, live longer, and earn more money.

In this scenario, Professor Shane Frederick of the Mbadachusetts Institute of Technology has developed an intelligence test with only 3 questions and considered the shortest in the world.

The study involved more than 3,000 people from different fields and different levels of education, including students from Harvard University and Princeton University. However, only 17% of participants had an ideal score.

It is a test of cognitive skills created in 2005 and based on mathematical operations:

1- A bat and a ball cost $ 1.10 in total. The bat costs 1 dollar more than the ball. How much does the ball cost?

2- If 5 machines take 5 minutes to manufacture 5 devices, how long would it take 100 machines to make 100?

3- In a lake, there is a segment of lily leaves. Every day, the segment doubles its size. If the segment takes 48 days to cover the entire lake, how long will it take for the segment to cover half of the lake?

Correct results

The most common answers are 10 cents; 100 minutes and 24 days, respectively, but they are incorrect. The correct results are: 5 cents; 5 minutes and 47 days.

In addition, the researchers found significant differences in the responses provided by participants based on gender.

Female test scores were closely related to time preferences, while men's responses were related to risk preferences. "In general terms, being smart makes women patient and requires men to take more risks," said the study's author.
