A yellow list for the European elections
The movement appears divided after the decision of some people to present a list of candidates for the European elections. This list, called the "Citizen Initiative Meeting" (RIC), currently has only ten names, but its goal is to compile a complete list of 79 candidates, before mid-February, ahead of the May 26 elections.
Polls predict a great success for this space. According to a survey conducted by Elabe, the "yellow vests" would come in third place, with 13% of the vote, behind the presidential party La Republica en Marcha (center, 22.5%) and the right-wing movement National Reunification of Marine Pen (17.5%).
For the first time, police firing rubber bullets will leave equipped with cameras to record their interventions, a measure decided by the Minister of the Interior, Christophe Castaner, so that the use of this weapon is more transparent, which is criticized for hurting protesters in the past.
According to the group Desarmons-les, which militates against police violence, at least 98 demonstrators have been seriously injured since the beginning of the demonstrations, including 17 people who lost an eye following rubber bullets and four who lost a hand while lifting police grenades.
In an attempt to emerge from this crisis, Macron suspended the increase in the fuel tax at the origin of the protests, announced an increase in the minimum wage and convened a two-month national debate with meetings in dozens of municipalities to "turn anger into solutions".
