There are allegedly Venezuelan army weapons behind the attack on Iván Duque, according to Colombian police director

In the afternoon of this Friday, June 25, the helicopter in which the Colombian president was mobilized, Iván Duque, was attacked from the ground in Norte de Santander. The head of state was traveling from the municipality of Sardinata to Cúcuta when the plane apparently received several shots. Interior and Defense Minister Daniel Palacios and Diego Molano were also traveling on the plane. All are unharmed after the attack.

For this reason, with the presence of army and police leaders, the ministers held a security meeting which lasted until the early hours of Saturday. General Jorge Luis Vargas, director of the national police, revealed in a speech that the first result of the investigations against the terrorists responsible for the attack has been obtained: apparently one of the weapons was reportedly traced to determine its Venezuelan origin.

“The events took place 1.2 kilometers from the runway head of Cúcuta airport, in a neighborhood called ‘La Conquista’. (…) A search team was deployed in this sector and two guns, five suppliers, twenty vanillas were found. These rifles are an AK-47 with a registration number which is already sought after by experts from the National Police and the Prosecutor’s Office, and a 7-62 caliber FAL rifle with marks from the Venezuelan armed forces ”, said the uniform, on the preliminary information of the fact.

Of this equipment, 14 of the vanillas belonged to the FAL weapon and 6 to the AK-47, according to the prosecution.

“We will not allow terrorism to destabilize Colombia. We will not spare our efforts with our public force until we capture the officials who sought to affect Colombia’s institutions. This fear is felt by those responsible, criminals and terrorists, who have sought to undermine the integrity of the president and the government team ”, Diego Molano claimed in the video posted on his official Twitter account.

On another side, revealed that 3,000 million pesos will be available to anyone who provides information to find those responsible for the attack. “We call on the whole nation to a determined fight against terrorism. (…) A reward of up to 3,000 million pesos is offered to this person who provides information making it possible to find those responsible for this terrorist attack ”, added.

General Luis Fernando Navarro, commander of the military forces, spoke about the logistics behind President Iván Duque’s travels. “The President’s security is a system in which all the Military Forces and the National Police participate. It is of the highest priority for national security and defense. Each visit of the president is subject to detailed and rigorous planning where the best capacities are available for his safety, that of senior government officials and the departmental and municipal authorities who support the various events and activities ”, he added, at the end of the speech.

A few minutes after the attack, from Cúcuta, the president made a statement: “We were the Minister of Defense, the Minister of the Interior, the Governor of Norte de Santander and myself. The aerial device and the capability of the aircraft prevented anything deadly from happening. “, assured the president.

He further added: “It was a cowardly attack where bullet holes are seen in the presidential plane. Once again, we reiterate that as a government we are not going to falter for a single minute, a single day, in the fight against drug trafficking, against terrorism and against the criminal organizations operating in the country. “, he said, who also gave instructions to prosecute those responsible.
