The infrastructure apparently collapsed last night and ended up causing a traffic accident which was reported at 11:30 p.m. The accident involved three vehicles: a van and two trucks, one medium and one large.
The large truck, whose structure still partly oscillates on the catwalk, carried construction materials and was under the command of Juan Javier Alarcón Ferreira (40). The driver was referred to the Horqueta Regional Hospital, where his death was subsequently recorded.
The other vehicle involved is a Mercedes Benz mid-size truck ordered by Rodney David Areco (23). The driver was referred to the Santa Rosa del Aguaray General Hospital with his companion Denis Leonardo Díaz (19, who ultimately died).
The last vehicle involved is a Kia truck which had three occupants: driver Juan Agripino Galarza (32) and Fernando Manuel Fernánfez (35), who were referred to the General Hospital of Santa Rosa del Aguaray, while María Wilma Villalba (63 years old) She was reported missing and after several hours of searching, she was found with no sign of life.
Relatives of the truck driver said Galarza was traveling with his companions from Puerto Casado to Asunción to take the woman for medical treatment, correspondent Omar Acosta reported. According to the data collected, the bridge was inaugurated by the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) in April of last year. The footbridge connects the Tacuatí junction, located at 2000 m, with the center of Tacuatí.

Locals have reported long-standing calls for infrastructure repairs. However, the MOPC only approached the site to perform shallow “potholes” last week.
