The Apostolic Nuncio in Colombia, Monsignor Luis Mariano Montemayor, told the Caracol information network that "the UN, the Red Cross and the Cáritas can not participate in any political action in which the aid humanitarian aid is used ".

From the Colombian city of Tumaco, the nuncio said: "The problem we have is that the help expressed by the US government has a clear political connotation."

He clarified that "we do not oppose" because it is a decision of the US government, but he remains firm on the fact that "it is not our (decision)".

He pointed out that, in any case, the Catholic Church had been sending humanitarian aid to Venezuela for two years.
