Theresa May has applied for an extension to the European Union and her last card is played for a negotiated Brexit

British Prime Minister Theresa May on Wednesday asked the European Union for an extension until June 30 to finalize the Brexit, the British exit of the bloc.

According to current deadlines, the UK must leave in nine days, but the Parliament twice rejected the "divorce" agreement negotiated in May.

That is why May sent a letter to the President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, in which asked for the extension and expressed its intention to try for the third time the approval of the agreement.

The report requires the approval of 27 states remaining members, who will meet in Brussels on Thursday.

A quick decision of the European Union is not planned. The President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, stressed that it is unlikely that the leaders of the bloc take a decision about it at the top on Thursday.
