The Peruvian government today rejected versions circulating on social media referring to the president’s vaccination against the coronavirus Francisco Sagasti, and clarified that the president received the first dose on the 9th of this month, the day the vaccination began in the country after the arrival of the first vaccines.

The denial came amid the scandal – which led to the downfall of two ministers from Sagasti’s team – caused by the revelation that around 500 people, many of whom were civil servants and even the former president Martin vizcarra, have been vaccinated previously, with doses believed to be attributed to clinical trials.

In social media, it was broadcast that the president had previously received a dose of the vaccine, for which a presidential statement said this version is only intended to discredit the work Sagasti has done.

<< As it is common knowledge, the President of the Republic received the first dose of the Sinopharm vaccine against covid 19 on the night of February 9, with health personnel, at the central military hospital, after the publication of ministerial resolution no. 194-2021 Minsa, by which it was included in phase I of the point "Vaccination phases" of the national vaccination plan against covid-19 ", indicated the text quoted by the Andina news agency.

The statement was released after Sagasti led a new cabinet session.

“The health, economic and social crisis, and the political instability that we have known in recent months have been accompanied by an ethical and moral crisis,” said the president.

“ The ethical behavior that we have seen in recent times, I mean in recent years, with authorities at all levels, with public figures from the highest to the most local, accused of corruption involved in inappropriate acts and using their power for personal gain, requires deep thought “, added.

Sagasti confirmed yesterday that 487 people had been vaccinated “unofficially”, including senior officials and officials who “took advantage of their position to get vaccinated with Sinopharm vaccines” against the coronavirus, in a scandal that prompted the departure of the government of Minister of Salud, Pilar Mazzetti and Chancellor Elizabeth Astete.

According to information from the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, 487 people have irregularly accessed the vaccine from Chinese pharmaceutical company Sinopharm, a list that includes those vaccinated classified as foreign relations staff, as “guests” or “close environment”.

The document registers former President Vizcarra as “guest”; to his wife, Maribel Díaz as “close environment”; to his brother César Vizcarra also as a “close environment”, and to the local ambassador of the Holy See, Nicola Girasoli,

The main parties involved can be sentenced to eight years in prison for corruption offenses.

For his part, the chairman of the sub-committee on constitutional charges, Carlos Pérez Ochoa (AP), today announced that this Friday the qualification report of the six constitutional complaints filed against Vizcarra and others for the early vaccination against the coronavirus will be seen.

The six constitutional complaints presented so far will be cumulative because they involve the same people, have a common thread and due to procedural economy, the parliamentarian told the Andean Agency.

If the admission of constitutional complaints is approved, Pérez Ochoa explained that it is appropriate to send the accumulated complaint to the Standing Commission in order to allow time to conduct the investigation.

Peru bought one million vaccines from Sinopharm but they are not enough for priority staff of 1.1 million civil servants, including doctors, nurses, police, firefighters and street sweepers, data shows official.

Across the country, with 1.2 million coronavirus cases and 44,056 deaths, 310 doctors and 125 nurses who treated coronavirus patients died within a year.
